Hippity Hop!

Happy Memorial Day!!

It's Kelly here hoping that you are having a nice long weekend and enjoying time with your family and friends! While you enjoy your time, please take a moment to remember the sacrifices that others have made in order for us to have the freedoms we enjoy.  Memorial Day may seem to be the first official weekend of the summer, but it really was set in place to honor and commemorate all the American men and women who died for us while serving in the military service.

Remembering their service and the sacrifices they made for us just
doesn't seem enough if you put it all into perspective, does it.

So what else can we do???

Well for today's Hippity Hop Challenge I have an idea for you.
Let's honor our active duty Military Personnel... let's send them some cards!!

Ippity Hippity Hop Challenge 26
IHHC26

Operation Write Home

Operation Write Home is an organization that collects blank handmade cards from crafters all across the country and sends them to members of our military so they can send them back home to their loved ones.  They also collect cards of appreciation and gratitude for the service men and women currently serving our country.  Isn't that a great idea?  Think about being in Afghanistan and knowing that your loved one has a birthday coming up and not being able to send him/her a card because you had no way to go out and buy one!

Crafters to the Rescue!!

So for your challenge please make one or more themed cards (blank inside) or a thank you card to honor a member of the military and mail it to Unity Stamp Company.  For prize purposes, the challenge will close on next Sunday night, June 6th, but we will accept cards postmarked by June 14th to include them into the package that will be sent to OWH.

Unity Stamp Company
PO Box 424
100 W. Central Avenue
New London, MN 56273

There are some important things to know before you make your card, so please check out the OWH site.  They also explain what special occasions or holiday they are currently collecting cards for but they always welcome the "thinking of you" or "missing you" types of cards!

IMPORTANT
Check out more details HERE!

When you participate in this challenge
upload your creations to the SCS Gallery using the keywords
Ippity and IHHC26for a chance to win!

One lucky random winner will receive
Just Wanted to Say
A random winner will be chosen next Monday!

Here is a snippet of the thank you card that I made for one of the many Heroes serving our country right now!

Sunday Faves!

Hope you are all enjoying the weekend. Here in the states, it's a holiday weekend-Memorial Day Weekend. Take time to thank our service men and women. They work hard to keep us safe!
I have some beautiful {ippity} creations to share with you today. I spent a lot of time in the gallery checking out all the work you have done with these amazing stamps. First off is this polka dotted beauty by Teresa Kline. All those polka dots just make me smile and I can't help but LOVE that sweet flower from Now & Always.
Then of course this one caught my eye because of the fabulous dp-Fly a Kite (you can get some from an Ippity Chick, it's part of the Spring 2010 paper pack) done up by Christy. I love the faux button she created (for this week's IHHC25) and of course the fabulous sentiment from Delightful Little Things done up on a circle, nestled just right on the dp.

More polka dots and those gigantic, beautiful flowers from Now & Always, with this one from Jimmie. I love how well {ippity} can stand on it's own or be paired up with any other stamp, especially Unity! {ippity} + Unity, make my heart sing!
I loved the papers and all the little extras, Jo Willis, used on her card. It's all so pretty and of course, the wonderful quote from Delightful Little Things finished this beauty off!
And I will leave you with this one for today. It's a great card using Moon Beams and Heart Strings from last release. Love the colors, stitching and the adorable fabric flower Emily made.

There are sooooo much more beautiful {ippity} creations in the gallery. If you're looking for more inspiration check out the gallery on SCS. If you enter {ippity} in the search box, tons of cards pop up!

Enjoy the day! Many Hugs, Lisa

Say Hello to Cassie Medema

Now that we have gotten to learn a little more about each of our amazing design team members, I am excited to introduce you to Cassie Medema.

Cassie is one of Ippity's stamp designers, as well as, the creative mind behind the design of all Ippity (and Unity) packaging.  So many customers ooohhh and aaahhh over the adorable packaging even before they look at the design of the stamps.  I may know of someone who can't stand to throw it away because is so gorgeous!!! *me*

After getting to know her a little better, you can tell she fits in perfectly with the Ippity and Unity family.  She is fun, funky, sweet and full of CREATIVITY!!!!

I asked Cassie a few questions so we could all get to know her a little better.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD. Leading up to college, I had all sorts of design-y jobs: creating floral arrangements, processing photos and retail interior design. I also drove a school bus while attending college for extra cash (I am still a proud CDL holder, with endorsements for passengers and air breaks, thank you very much.) After moving away for 4 years to major in advertising and graphic design in college, I graduated and moved back to Sioux Falls. I got my first job at an advertising agency downtown in SF and got married (to my high school sweetheart) a few months later. After about a year and a half, my husband Dave landed a job that moved us up to Minneapolis. So I quit my agency job in SF and began to work freelance design jobs everywhere in MPLS. After a year up there, Dave's job shipped us back to SF where we've been since! And freelancing was going so well I couldn't bring myself to have a 'real' job ever again. We bought an old two story house a few months later in a historical neighborhood in the central part of the city - just minutes from our charming downtown. THEN a little over a year ago - I convinced Dave to quit his boring insurance job and program websites for me. We are called Funky Fresh. (http://funky-fresh.com) We make logos, brochures, booklets, websites, banners, custom blogs, etc. I was 10 months pregnant at the time we started full time. It was a crazy decision but it is working out so well. He does all the business-y selling, client meeting, web development and I just get to make things pretty. Two months after we started Funky Fresh - we were introduced to our greatest design/creation yet. His name is Evan and he is the best thing ever! (insert other gushy mom things here :o)

Tell us about your creative process
I've been told that my design style is simple, organic and unexpected. I like to think that my design style is the result of daily experiences with people, places, color, texture and pattern. In some way, all of these things inspire me to actualize the chaos of imagery swirling around in my mind.

What is your title at Unity/{ippity}?
I believe I am a "Unity Artist". Although I started with Angela creating stamp designs, I have evolved into creating the heart of the main graphic design for the entire company. From the logo to the website to the packaging that your stamps come in.

Can you tell us a funny story about your boss? {Sorry Angela!}
I met Angela over two and a half years ago via Craigslist! It was back when I was freelancing up in Minneapolis. I answered her post requesting stamp art on a whim. We met at a book store coffee shop and after we talked about stamp designs I casually mentioned I am a graphic designer by trade and asked if she also need a logo?, and a website?, and marketing materials? and and.... :o) So not really a funny story, just a really cool connection.

Do you do other artistic mediums (like painting or pencil work)?
I love to screen print, paint, organize (yep!), dumpster dive, attend local music shows, collect business cards and laugh at jokes :o)

Which Ippity stamp sets did you designed?
Delightful little things

What sort of goals or ambitions do you have?
To be someone who makes new things. To live simply.
I love to think in terms of appreciating what you have instead of always wanting more stuff. A clutter free home makes for a clutter free mind. I typically can’t concentrate on design if there is a mess around me. I also can’t be in a messy room for more than 24 hours without cleaning it and organizing it to perfection.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
A professional house cleaner (see above.) I would also offer furniture re-arranging, as that was something I mastered in my own bedroom sometime during my middle school years.

Thanks for sharing a little bit about yourself Cassie.  It is so fun to learn about the amazing people behind the scenes who help make Ippity such a fabulous company.

Fresh Idea Friday - Crinkled Roses

Hi there my sweet ippity friends!  Karen here to share with you my FRESH IDEA of creating beautiful crinkled roses to accompany those fabulous {ippity} stamps!!

You may have seen the wonderful effects that you can achieve by misting your own seam binding with Glimmer Mist to make gorgeous color ribbons to use on your projects...you agree?   Well...I thought I would take it a step further and share this FRESH IDEA to use that crinkled seam binding ribbon to CREATE your very own UNIQUE and FABULOUS CRINKLED ROSES!!

After I made one big beautiful rose, I thought...I can not stop there! So, I made two smaller crinkled rosettes to accompany the big crinkled rose!  Now doesn't this make for a lovely bouquet displayed by those gorgeous {ippity} leaves that come in the NEW SPRING "Now & Always" {ippity} stamp set?    And, if you are wondering..'cause I know you are..he he hee..that sweet sentiment is from the {ippity} "Love in Return" stamp set!   Not to mention, I had to throw in some beautiful October Afternoon designer papers onto my card to compliment all the goodies on this card!!

Now, DON'T LIMIT YOURELF...GET A LITTLE DARING..you might like the effects of mixing different colors of Glimmer Mist on your seam binding to achieve a variegated look that become your very own individualized ROSESNo two will be the same!  You can really make these crinkled roses COME TO LIFE!!  The big rose especially shows the multiple colors I've used.

Details - "Measured Moments" Card

Supplies - Printed Paper: October Afternoon; Cardstock: Bazzill; Stamps: ippity by Unity; Die Cut: Spellbinders: Glimmer Mist: Tattered Angels; Seam Binding: Lawrence Schiff Silk Mills, Inc; Adhesive Pearls: Prima; 3D Zap Dots: Helmar; Premium Craft Glue: Helmar (used on the crinkled roses)

{ippity} Matters ~ by Michelle Ogdahl

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!!!

KUDOS goes out to new {ippity} chick, Tracy McCann, as she is one smart cookie :)  She recently attended a CK Convention in Buffalo and wore her {ippity} chick t-shirt.  This got the attention of another attendee, Laurie Thomas, who is now planning on sending Tracy an {ippity} order!  This is a great reminder...if you are an {ippity} chick- LET PEOPLE KNOW!  Logo-wear is an inexpensive way to advertise and share your {ippity} business with others!  WAY TO GO TRACY!!!

This is a CUTE card made by {ippity} chick,
Nora Anne Robinson,
that I came across in the Splitcoast Gallery.
She used the NEW SPRING {ippity} stamp set
"Delightful Little Things" to create this card.
 LOVE IT!!

This ADORABLE card was made by Kim Bell,
who also is an {ippity} chick :)
She used stamps from
"The Simple Things" and "A Little Buggy",
both {ippity} sets from the new Spring Collection.
This card is soft and delicate and makes me feel
VERY HAPPY :)

We also need to welcome some
NEW {IPPITY} CHICKS to our amazing team!

Congrats and welcome to:

Linda Wiencek from Austinburg, OH

and

Symbelly Tan from the Philippines!

Remember if you have any questions on ordering {ippity} products or want to join {ippity}, make sure and visit the {ippity} chick locator on the {ippity} site...click here!

HAVE A FABULOUS AND SAFE HOLIDAY WEEKEND :)

Tuesday's Tip- Two Color Stamping!

Happy Tuesday to all my fabulous Ippity friends!!

This is Kelly here today and I had some queries this week about how I was able to stamp the sentiment you see below in two different colors.   You probably saw this card I made for last week's Hip Hop on my blog last Thursday so sorry for the repeat appearance. But it will serve the purpose in demonstrating the color process.  :-)

The sentiment I am using today is one of the fabulous sentiments from the new Ippity Spring Release set called Delightful Little Things.  There is certainly more than one way to get two or more colors of ink onto your sentiments and images.   (In fact Lisa H. uses her watercolor markers and the "huffing" technique,) but since I don't have any watercolor markers I use my Stamp-a-mjig and ink pads!

Here is a quick tip (actually a tutorial) on how I do it!

Gather your supplies.  My technique requires the stamp-a-majig and
I like to use a Post-It-Note (you can use several for larger images!)

Start by stamping your image on the stamp-a-majig plastic piece.
{I thougth my card used brown and not black ink, so pretend I am using black!! LOL!)

Stamp the image onto the Post-It Note.

Carefully remove the words that you want to show up in your accent color.
Try to cut it in such a way that your Post-It Note will remain intact.  Use tape if you have to.

Place your Post-It Note onto the surface you want to stamp.
Carefully line up the stamp-a-majig over the image on the Post-It Note.

Using your accent color, stamp the image again over the Post-It Note.
The color will only show up on your paper where the words have been removed.
DO NOT remove the Post-It Note yet!

Apply temporary sticky to the back of the words you removed.
Now replace them like puzzle pieces back into the holes on the Post-It Note.

Carefully remove the rest of the Post-It Note leaving only the words you just replaced.

Line your stamp-a-majig back up over the two words showing.
And stamp your sentiment with the second color you want to use.

Remove your the remaining pieces of Post-It Note and Wala!!  You did it!!  :-)

Now all you have to do is have fun finishing your card!!

Are you interested in getting the quote stamp that I used today?
Well you can get this whole quote kit called
Delightful Little Things
by contacting an Ippity Chick today.
