It's Kelly again today and I am back with a follow up post and Tutorial related to my Hippity Hop Post on Monday! Remember this project I showed you for our Back To School Hippity Hop Challenge (IHHC39)?
Before it was adorned with Ippity stamps from the House a Home and Quotes a la Happy stamp sets, along with some cute paper, it started off looking like this...
This notepad holder was purchased from Michael's a while back, but I was able to figure out a way to recreate it and I wanted to share it with you! They are so easy to make! And the best part about it all is that they are very affordable to make too!!
I went to my local Staples Office Supply Store and found the notepads (3x5) and mini pens in sets of 12 each and my total bill at the store was only $12.07. So that's basically $1 per Notepad/Pen set. (Plus the cost of any embellishments you add to them!) So that is very affordable!!! Right??

Here is the list of supplies you will need...
- Scratch pad and mini pen
- Kraft cardstock or Designer Paper (1 sheet of 8.5 x 11)
- Paper trimmer
- Score Pal (or score blade for your trimmer)
- Glue stick
- Red line adhesive
- Exacto knife
- Ippity stamps and embellishments of your choosing
Step 1: Cut the long edge of your cardstock at 5 1/8th (5.125) inches. (If you want to stamp directly onto your paper, now would be a good time to do that. Or you can add embellishments after it is completed.
Step 2: Place the long edge of your trimmed paper at the top left hand corner of your ScorPal and score it at the 3in., 3.5in., 4in., and 7.5in. marks.
Step 3: Fold the score marks you just created. Make a valley fold at the 3in mark, a peak fold at the 3.5in mark, a valley fold at the 4in mark and a peak at the 7.5in mark.
Step 4: Create the slot that will hold the pen. From the top of the Notepad holder, measure down 1 inch and cut a slit between the fold lines at 3in and 4in. Now cut another slit as before 1 3/4in from the top.
Step 5: Reverse the fold on the section you just created with the slits. This creates the section that the pen will slip onto.
Step 6: With the right side facing up and the front flap at the far right, place adhesive on the section at the far left.
Step 7: Fold the flap (following the valley fold up and onto the middle section. You now have a reinforced bottom with two layers of paper.
Step 8: Turn the Notepad Holder over so you are looking at the inside now. Using red line tape, place a strip all the way up the inner spine closest to the base section. Cut away the portion of tape where the slot is. Remove the backing and fold the spine onto the base of the Notepad Holder.
Step 9: On the back of the pad of paper, apply three lines of red line adhesive.
Step 10: Remove the adhesive backing off the red line tape and affix the paper pad to the inside of the Notepad Holder's base.
Step 11: Fold the front flap over the paper to close the front cover. Insert the pen into the holder.
