Backgrounds and Texture...a card tutorial!

Hiya! It's Lisa Henke here with you today.  So happy to be sharing a little photo tutorial with you. I need to give a shout out to Angie for giving me the inspiration to try a painting technique. She does some beautiful work with all kinds of mediums. 

I pulled out some white acrylic paint and decided to try it. I also wanted to use a little more of that canvas I have in my stash and I'll show you how easy it is to color with copics.

Let's get started.

Once again, if I had some fancy video equipment, this would be a bit more fun,

but I'm an advocate for use what you have....so it's a photo tut from me today :)

What you'll need:

white acrylic paint

re-inkers

paint brush or sponge dauber

canvas

copic friendly ink

copic markers

ippity stamps, of course!

any embellishments you need to finish your card.

Let's Get Started.....

1.Start with little blobs (dotcha love my technical terms, lol) of white acrylic paint. I don't have a fancy holder for them, so I just use a scrap piece of plastic. Add a drop or two of your re-inker of choice and mix. Keep in mind,  your paint color will be much lighter than your re-inker, since you are adding it to white. Want a darker, more intense color, add more ink.

2.Using your sponge dauber (or paint brush), add some quick back and forth movements adding paint to your card base or card stock.  Feel free to blend your colors are you move from one shade to the next.

3.Let your paint dry or use a heat gun to speed up the drying process.  Set aside.

4.Next, move on to your canvas piece. Using a black ink that will work with Copics (I use Momento Tuxedo black) stamp your image. Let dry a minute.

5. Color with Copics (here is a looksie and some of the new colors that came out during Winter CHA). It's easy and makes a great finished look.

6. Stamp your sentiment. I added two colors of ink to my sentiment. Simply mask part of the sentiment to ink up with the first ink color. I then found it easy to add the second color with careful placement of the ink pad.

7. Distress the edges, sew around panel, add a strip of designer paper, and add buttons and ribbon.

8.Lay every thing out before adhering the layers and embellies down. This helps me get an idea of proper balance throughout my card.

Adhere everything down and your done.  Here's my finished card. I hope you'll feel inspired to work with some mixed media, acrylic paint, especially and maybe throw in some canvas with copic coloring. If I can do, so can you! Thanks for stopping by,  today!

Decorative tape is a BIG trend right now and 

this is a great way to customize your tape to your {ippity} projects.

Today I have a video tutorial on how to use some of your Ippity Stamps to make a page in your Art Journal. Art Journals seem to be the rage these days.. I just love that you can mix your stamps in your pages, to change it from ordinary to extordinary.. Let me tell you these Ippity stamps are amazing images to add to your pages. You don't need to be an artist you just need to want to have FUN!! I was also thinking if you are an Ippity Chick wouldn't this be a fun way to teach a class and sell more Ippity!! Multi purpose.. you gotta love that.

How to Thursday....custom embellies!

It's Lisa Henke here with you. I feel like I've gotten quite a bit of face time here on the old Blog-o! I'm happy to help Maria out today, as she has a lot on her plate this week so I'm pitching in.

 You know me, always trying to keep it simple and always tying to think of ways to use my stamps other than with just paper and ink.  In other words....get more bang for you buck!

I was looking at my lovely {ippity} stamp collection and started looking at the stamps individually, instead of as sets (although.....I ended up using most of the stamps from 1 set, LOL!).  There are soooo many that can be used to create custom embellishments. It's so easy and seriously, any part of a stamp can work-dots, little flourishes, text, flowers....you name it, you can use it.

I have a love affair with many crafty, stampy things, BUT buttons are at the top of my list! LOOOVE me some buttons. I love that I have a button die, so now I can make buttons of all kinds and when I pair them with my stamps, the possibilites are even MORE endless!  So today, I'll show you how to make some custom, {ippity} buttons and I even throw in a custom paper flower! Custom embellishements are what we're doing today.

The quick tutorial today also shows how quickly you can alter any notebook.

Here's what you'll need:
chipboard (I used coasters today)
random ippity stamps
button die (or circle punch and a hole punch)
paper flower
notebook
paper
ink

Step 1.  die cut some buttons with a die (I used MFT Button Quartet) from chipboard or cs. I like chipboard because it gives the buttons some thickness and a more authentic look.  If you don't have a button die, just punch some different sized circles and add button holes with a small hole punch. Eyrn did up a fun tutorial waaaay back. I'll have to see if I can find it.

Step 2. stamp directly over top of the button.  Repeat for each button you have die-cut.  I changed ink color and stamps for each one.

Step 3. Find a text stamp image and stamp directly onto your paper flower.

Step 4. Complete your custom embellishments.  I like to dress my buttons with twine, it just helps give them a more completed look.

Step 5. Stamp sentiment and any accent images to designer paper and then attach finished, custom embellishments.  Add finished layer to notebook with Scor-tape or other strong adhesive.

And DONE! You have a sweet little notebook to dress up any desk top or counter space.  I gave this one to my Mom.  She made a surprise visit this week and I was able to complete this while she played with the boys. Plus, she thinks everything I make is wonderful! Aren't mom's great?!!!

Happy Thursday, it's Eva here to share a little Ippity Tutorial with you.
You know how those pretty doilies are everywhere and so adored by everyone?  Well, today I will be creating something with it.  So to start let me share the card I made with it.  Tell me, can you see the doily????

And now let's start the picture tutorial.

First you need this little cake doily, which you can purchase at Michael's or any of those type of stores and a pair of good scissors.

Then you cut into the middle of the doily and cut the middle out, just like this.

Next is a great tip I learned from my friend Irina this past weekend at her workshop.  To make sure that you can easily shape your doily, cut little "v"s into it, just like this.

And now, you are ready to glue, so get a good quick drying glue and start creating a little flower looking shape by gluing it as you go.  You will end up with something like this.

Now, here comes the pretty part.  Add some color by spraying it with Radiant Rain Mist by Creative Imaginations.  I used Key Lime color, which I love!

Finally to "doll" it up even more, adhere Diamond Dust to it and again, I just used my 450 glue for it and add your choice of flower in the middle.

And this is what you will end up with...now you can all oooh, and ahhh....LOL.  But seriously, isn't this pretty????

And here is a close up of the card again for you to see the details.  All the papers are by Creative Imaginations,  Ippity stamps are from the Moment in Time set...just love this set!!!

Hello there sweet {ippity} friends!

To carry on with our week 4 monthly challenge "using ribbon", 

I thought I would share with you a

 super quick, easy, and fun way to spice up your ribbon!!

You ask how?  I will tell you how (smile) !!

Today, we are adding TEXTURED EMBOSSING 

to satin ribbon for our {ippity} projects!!

I love how it feels & adds that extra pop to your ribbon!!

Here's what you can do to add TEXTURE  to your SATIN RIBBON...

You're only using 3 items: satin ribbon, heavy starch spray, & an embossing folder!!

1) cut your satin ribbon to the length you desire

2) spritz the cut satin ribbon with Heavy Starch Spray

3) let the ribbon air dry (optional: use a heat gun to speed up dry process)

4) using any embossing folder, run ribbon through your Cuttlebug/Big Shot (I ran my ribbon back and forth twice to give more dimension)

Viola!  That's it!  How easy was that!

a no frills tutorial

Hello to all our fabulous {ippity} peeps.  

Today, I have a really simple tutorial to share with you.

As I was thinking about what to do for a tutorial, I noticed a very LARGE box of gadgets and toys at my feet.  It is full of punches of all shapes and sizes and there are LOTS of them.

It reminded me of when I was just starting out in the card making and scrapbooking world.  I didn't have very many tools.  So, I wanted to show our newbies how to make scallops when you don't have all those fancy punches, scissors or die cut machine.

I still LOVE to make scallops this way.
I do it quite a lot actually even though I have
MANY
other options in that fancy little box of mine.  

All you need is a small circle punch and some tape adhesive.

Super basic and super easy  
no frills scallops.

Layers.....I LOVE them!

Phew! it's been one of those weeks...just busy, busy and fortunately all good things happening. So, I wasn't as organized as I wanted to be for today's post and now it's late....but I know you'll all forgive me! I'm here now and that's what counts. ☺

Keepin' it simple today and going back to some basics. It's nice to do that every once in awhile. While I love all my gadgets and gizmos and tools and toys, it's nice to just play with stamps and paper. I love layers! I love to dress in layers and I love layers of flavor in my cooking, and I love layers in my crafting. So today I've got a quicky photo tutorial (here's where I wish I had a fancy video cameras and editing program).
Today I'm layering my stamps. One of the many things I LOOOOOVE about {ippity} stamps is that so many of the sets work so well together. Mixing and Matching images is easy and fun and can give you BIG BANG for you BUCK!

It takes just a little planning....you need a few different colors of ink-light to darker, and a bit of a variety of images-some line, some bold, and some backgrounds work best for me.
Today I'm using:
Dots for Sure
Music of my Heart
House a Home
Life's Little Moments
A Moment in Time

1.I start with one of bolder backgrounds in the lightest color. Here it was Dots for Sure in Pink Pirouette (the same color card stock I'm using. This creates a subtle tone on tone effect.)

2. The I go in with the music background in a little darker color. Here it was Crumb Cake (kraft ink) and stamp right over top of the dots. Don't be afraid, just go for it.

3. Next comes the hearts and with a darker color yet. Here I decided to add in a bit of shimmer and glimmer with some new Tattered Angles Glimmer Paint. This stuff is pretty cool and I love that the brush is part of the lid. One less thing for me to clean up. Be sure to wash your stamp right after you use it, though.

Here's the finished layered stamped piece. Isn't it sweet!

 

4. Next I decided to layer up my sentiment on some canvas. It's fun to layer textures on your cards too. You'll see I also layered my ribbons, giving more depth and interest to the card.

I finished it off with a handmade heart charm. I love this heart from Life's Little Moments, and it's easy to make it into charm by punching out the center heart with a small heart punch.

Here's the finished card.

I added a touch more glimmer around the edges of the card and softened the edges more with some cream ink and rounded corners.
So pull out some of your favorite {ippity} stamps and layer them up to give you a whole new feel for them.
