Texture Tutorial

Hi everyone. It's Maria today for That's How Thursday :)
One of my favorite things to add to any project is texture. I love dry embossing, ribbon, tone on tone stamping, and stitching. It's a great way to add interest to any creation. Today's card is LOADED with texture! I'm already getting sucked in by Valentines cards and {ippity} has a lot of great stamps for the upcoming holiday. Here is everything you will need to make this card for your special someone.
What you will need:
{ippity} stamps - Because of You and Straight From the Heart
Cardstock {Kraft, Red and Cream}
Burlap
Red Felt
Embroidery Floss {Red and Cream}
Needle
Ink {I used Burnt Umber by Palette from Unity}
Red Gingham Ribbon
Cream Button
Paper Piercer and Mat
Scissors
Foam Tape and Double Sided Tape

1. My card is a standard A2 size (4 1/4 x 5 1/2). I started with a red cardstock mat (4 x 5 1/4). Cut a piece of burlap roughly the same size as the red mat. You will cut it to fit later.
2. Stamp the love background stamp from Because of You on a piece of Kraft cardstock (3 1/2 x 4 1/4). Ink the edges and adhere to the burlap (I used double sided tape)
3.Holding the kraft mat in place, pull the edges of the burlap to fray the edges.
4. Once all the edges are frayed they will be uneven, use your scissors to trim
5. Adhere the burlap to the red cardstock mat and pierce holes around the edges for stitching. I freehand pierced the holes however you could use a template if you wanted the stitching exact.
6. Back stitch a border along the edge.
7. Cut a heart out of the felt (again I freehand cut a heart but you could use a paper or chipboard template.) Adhere it to the bottom right hand corner as shown.
8. Hand stitch around the heart edges using cream embroidery floss.
9. Distress the edges of the red cardstock using a paper distresser or the edge of your scissors.
10. Stamp the sentiment on cream cardstock, cut out and adhere as shown.
11. Wrap a red ribbon around the top at an angle and add a bow and a button.
12. Attach card front to a kraft cardstock base using foam tape.

I can't wait to see all of your creations :) Make sure you come back by tomorrow for the first post of the new year brought to you by Eva!
Have a HAPPY and SAFE new years eve!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE {ippity} TEAM!!

WISHING ALL OF YOU A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
One of the biggest things I am thankful for this past year, was being asked to come and work at Unity Stamp Company!!  I believe everything in life happens for a reason.  Sometimes you need to push fear aside and have FAITH in the opportunity that is right in front of you.  Take the first step, you don't have to have the big picture revealed to you right away and remember-you can figure things out as you go!

This is how I feel about anyone considering the {ippity} opportUNITY.  You won't know unless you give something a try...and for only $27- it is worth it!!  You have nothing to lose and only EVERYTHING to gain!

Here are just a few EXCITING things that I would like to share with you about {ippity} for 2010:

We are having an {ippity} booth at the Winter CHA show in January!  There will be a preview of the NEW RELEASES for February at the show!!  YAHOOO!!

We will be releasing NEW kits and adding them to the {ippity} line in February, May, August, and November!!

We will be adding {ippity} handles to the product line.

We are looking into other FUN incentives that will only IMPROVE the benefits of being an {ippity} chick or {ippity} dude.

These are just a FEW of the AWESOME things that we have in store for {ippity} in 2010!!

It is only going to GET BETTER FROM HERE!!  If you haven't jumped on board with {ippity} yet, I encourage you to do it now and start the NEW YEAR off with a BANG!
{ippity}...it may just be the BEST decision you ever made!

I would like to wish all of you a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
SO MANY GREAT THINGS IN STORE FOR {ippity} in 2010!!

T{ippity} Tuesday-And We Want YOU!!!

Hello, Hello! It's me, Lisa, with my first contribution to the {ippity} blog! Yippeee!!!! We've been doing some talking and decided that we want to hear from all of you, {ippity} chicks!!!!
While we hope you're enjoying reading our Tuesday Tips and that you are learning a thing or two from them, we know there are many more great ideas and tips out there and you've got them. So we are asking you to email us with any {ippity} tips you think are worthy of sharing.
One thing to keep in mind is that your tips don't just have to be about using {ippity} stamps. They can be about selling {ippity} stamps, organizing your {ippity} business, sales techniques, encouragement and what have you. Just think of anything that you think could be helpful for the {ippity} chicks!
Please send you tips to me, Lisa, at lik@cinci.rr.com. I will compile the tips and if we use your tip we will let you know and of course give you credit and post a link to your sales blog, too in the T{ippity} Tuesday post!

Eryn's Sunday FAVES!

Hello! This is Eryn posting today and since I haven't had the opportunity yet... MERRY {belated} CHRISTMAS! I hope you had a WONDERFUL time and were able to spend LOTS of time with your families!!

I am SO EXCITED to be posting today because what a FUN theme...
my {ippity} FAVES that have been posted this week to the Splitcoast gallery!!
The only thing is....how do I really narrow it down!? You ladies are so creative and inspiring that it really is hard to choose!!
So after much consideration, I TRIED to narrow it down to my favorite 5...but it just wasn't possible....SO here are my TOP 6 for this week:
Thinking of you card by Stephanie Muzzulin
I just LOVE how Stephanie used the "branch" stamp and stamped it 2 times to get the layered look PLUS look at how she actually tied that branch to the card...I LOVE that!
You stole my Heart by Stephanie Zito
Stephanie's Blog: Stephanie's Creations
I adore the soft color's Stephanie used on the card...along with the perfect bow and buttons to add the perfect finishing touches! Also, notice how she embossed that sentiment...which gives it a much bolder look. Thanks for the inspiration Stephanie...I think I'll be pulling my embossing tools out very soon!
Under the mistletoe by Lynn Miller
Lynn's Blog: Millers-Ink
Lynn created this Gift Card holder for last weeks ippity challenge {IHHC3}
What's not to love about this card!?!? I love the colors that she chose, the scalloped shape, the background is perfect, and the paper pieces along with the ippity stamps creates a soft FUN card!
Welcome Home by Emily Niehaus
Emily chose the PERFECT colors to create this card! The BOLD red & yellow make it so warm and "welcoming"...what a perfect welcome home card!
Live, Laugh, Love By Carolina
Carolina's Blog: Carolina's Creative Pad
How creative is THIS card!!! First of all I just love the color combination that she chose...red, white, and red is one of my faves! That is actually a bookmark that Carolina created {being held within the open circle}...I JUST love that! What a special card to give to someone...with a little gift added that they can use over & over again! I really need to try this out!

Merry Kissmas Card set & Tote by Ashley Newell
Ashley's Blog: Heart Hugs Designs
I especially love the happy FUN feel Ashley has given each of these Christmas Cards! The perfect little bow and the little brads on the Christmas trees add the perfect little touches that I adore! And check out the TOTE that she created to go along with the set...LOVE it all Ashley!

THANK YOU CREATIVE ladies for sharing your {ippity} creations in the Splitcoast Gallery and for making my Sunday inspiring and so very enjoyable!

Flatterday Saturday

Hey {ippity} peeps, it's Maria today :) Did you all survive Christmas?!? We went to my parents house and had A HOUSE FULL!!! The kids ate way too much candy, the toys were all too loud and we had a great time!!!
I'm so happy to be able to bring you the very first Flatterday Saturday interview with none other than our very own Michelle Ogdahl. I got a kick out of reading her bio and I'm sure you will too. Here is a little about Michelle in her own words:
I have been asked to share a little bit about me…hopefully you won’t fall asleep :)
I would like to think that I am an easy going person, who loves to laugh and make others laugh and have FUN. Life is too short to be serious ALL of the time :) My family and friends are extremely important to me. I truly try to live in the moment as there are no guarantees for tomorrow.

My husband, Jason, and I live in New London, MN with our 2 boys Kirk (age 11) and Nathan (age 9). We have 4 dogs…yes 4…I think only crazy people have that many dogs- 3 ankle biters and a Yellow Lab that resembles a horse :)

I have a long commute every day to the Unity/{ippity} office…it is about 8 blocks from my house.

My past and future:
I started a business, 9 years ago, with a direct sales company and was able to work out of my home. I loved what I was doing, worked extremely hard to build my business and team of almost 100 women. Angela called me, almost a year ago, asking if I would be interested in helping out at Unity. She said they had just gotten back from a big Craft Show and had LOTS to get done. I didn’t have any idea what my job would entail, how long I would be helping out, if I was volunteering or actually getting paid…but what I did know was whatever I was going to be doing would be FUN! Boy was I right!!

Since January, I tried keeping up with two 40 hour a week jobs but because I am not superwoman, I finally had to decide between Unity Stamp and my business. In September, I ended my journey with my direct-sales business which enabled me to help develop an amazing opportunity for people in this industry. This is how {ippity} was born. Direct sales is definitely a passion of mine and now I have the best of both worlds…creating and shaping an opportunity that is like no other in this industry. The foundation of {ippity} is a combination of the things that I LOVED about my previous direct sales experience and also left out the things that I wasn’t very fond of! IT IS AWESOME!!

Here is a little Q&A with Michelle:
How did you first get involved in stamping?
My first stamping experience came when I was putting together a scrapbook for our foster girls that were returning home. I wanted to capture the highlights of their 11 month stay with us and a scrapbook was the best way to do this. I had so much fun creating their book that it inspired me to begin making cards and crafting. I am a beginner, I have SO MUCH to learn-that is for sure- but I love being surrounded by so much talent and each of YOU inspire me daily.
What is your favorite {ippity} stamp set and why?
I can’t pick just one…each kit is so unique and different- I honestly LOVE them ALL!! We are adding 8 new kits to the line in February…it just gets better and better :)
What is your title at Unity/{ippity}?
I am in charge of Business Development for Unity and I am an Administrator for {ippity}
My goal with {ippity} is to make this THE BEST OPPORTUNITY available in the crafting industry. The sky is the limit with {ippity} and I am blessed to be a part of this amazing journey!
How long have you worked there?
I began with Unity Stamp Company in January 2009.
Are you a crafter? Do you use Unity/{ippity} stamps outside of work?
I am a beginner…but everyone has to start somewhere right? Yes, I don’t know how anyone could be in crafting and NOT use our products…we have THE BEST IMAGES and PRODUCTS!!!
Can you tell us a funny story about your boss? {Sorry Angela!}
Everyday is an adventure when you work at the Unity and {ippity} office :) Sometimes, what happens at the office has to stay at the office :)
What song best describes you?
Girls just want to have FUN!
If you were stranded on a desert island what are the three things you would bring? Coffee, creamer and a coffee maker, my laptop with internet access, my cell phone, a good book, lots of chick flicks, some chocolate…I guess I am not a light packer :)
What is your favorite quote?
“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Try to end your day with little to no regrets as you are not guaranteed a tomorrow. Michelle Ogdahl
Find a way, no matter how big or small, to pay it forward each day…it might make the biggest difference in someone’s life! Michelle Ogdahl
“An organized person is just too lazy to look for things.” Author Unknown
And…
If you are breathing find something to be thankful for today! Michelle Ogdahl
What would I find in your refrigerator right now?
Christmas leftovers, Coffee Creamer (a must have) and lots of forgotten items that have become science experiments that need to be thrown away
If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?
With the wave of a wand, make crabby/unhappy people SUPER HAPPY and be able to zap drama away with a snap of my fingers :)
If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?
Everything happens for a reason
What would your dream vacation be?
Either traveling throughout Europe OR a trip to a tropical paradise

Wishing EVERYONE a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

{ippity matters} by Michelle

I would like to take this time to wish ALL of YOU a very Merry Christmas.

These are the things that TRULY MATTER to me...my loving and supportive husband, my two amazing boys, my family, my friends, good health, an amazing job with Unity and {ippity}, a warm home to live in, food to eat, the people that are risking their lives to defend our country, my freedom and my faith.  These are just a few of the things that I am thankful for during this Holiday Season.  What are YOU thankful for...what MATTERS to you?  I encourage you to take the time to share these things with the people in YOUR life :)

If you live in Minnesota, you already know that we are expecting a Winter Blizzard over the next couple of days.  This throws a curve-ball in lots of people's Christmas plans...including mine.  We were planning on traveling 2 hours to spend Christmas with my parents, sisters and other extended family.  I was SO EXCITED and looking forward to this.  Sometimes in life, things happen that are out of our control.  I am a TRUE BELIEVER that EVERYTHING in life happens for a reason.  It is up to each of us to make the best of every situation (can you tell I am trying to convince myself of this.)  I decided, since I can't stop a blizzard, I need to ENJOY this time with my family and celebrate Christmas just a little bit differently.  I plan on sipping Hot Chocolate, playing board games, watching all of the Holiday Classics on TV, laughing as much as possible and having FUN with my family.

During this Christmas season, make new memories that you will be able to cherish for years to come!

Have a SAFE, HAPPY and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

It's T{Ippity} Tuesday!!

Wow! Can you believe that there are only 3 days left until Christmas?  How are you coming along?  Are you able to relax and enjoy the holiday season, or are you still scrambling to get things done at the last minute?

This is Kelly here today and I am happy to say that I am getting closer to being able to relax.  Huge things were checked off my to-do list yesterday and now I can just get things wrapped up (literally and figuratively) so I can be ready to enjoy the season!  My apologies for not visiting each of the blogs from yesterday's Hippity Hop yet, but I will do it today and leave some love for you!

It's Tuesday and that means that I have a little tip for you!!
As one of the Dirty Dozen on SCS, I recently received a sweet letter from our leader Jen Balcer mentioning that the Signature Guidelines for posting on SCS had been updated.  So I thought I would share them with you here too!

It is very important that {ippity} chicks comply with the rules set forth, because we are very lucky to have a venue to share our creations with each other and get the word out about these great stamps.

Taken directly from the updated Terms of Service, here are the guidlines for your siggies on SCS posts...

To see the full Terms of Service on SCS, please go HERE.  If you have any questions concerning whether your signature is in compliance or not, please contact the staff of SCS to have it checked out!

Thanks for complying with the rules so that we don't give {ippity} stamps a bad reputation!  :-)

Have a great day!

Kelly's Faves!!

Hello there everyone!  This is Kelly here!!  I am happy to be here today, because Sunday's are one of my favorite {ippity} posts to host!  I just love going back through the week and finding all the glorious submissions that you talented ladies have uploaded into the {ippity} gallery on SCS.  The only hard part is narrowing down all the great cards into just a few of my faves. :-)

Hopefully the ones I have chosen will inspire and please you like they did me!!

Here are a couple of Christmas ones using the Kissmas & Mistletoe set by {ippity}...

This gorgeous card using the subtle colors of blue, white and gray was made by Andrea (http://andreasstamps.com/).  I love that glittery snowman!  What a great job of embossing she did!

Then with more bright and cheery colors, we have this beauty made by Cheri (http://thepaperfreak.blogspot.com/)  She even decorated her envelope with the  Peace sentiment from Kissmas & Mistletoe!

This week's gallery is showing a trend of moving away from Christmas cards and into bright and cheery colors for the new year and for Valentine's Day.  Take a look at what else I found...

Christi (http://www.alteredambitions.blogspot.com/)is no stranger to the Unity family and serves on their DT. Have you seen what she can do with {ippity} though too?  This is so cute! Love the Kraft base.  She used the Just Wanted to Say stamp kit from {ippity}

This gorgeous card filled with a bouquet of flowers from the Because of You stamp set was created by Ky (http://bunnynest.blogspot.com/).  I love all the dimension she added.  And that ladybug...oh so cute!

Emily (http://emmielouwho.blogspot.com/) created a Clean and Simple styled card with {ippity}'s Devoted stamp set.  The Kraft, black and white are perfect for pulling off this primitive country look!! It is adorable!!

I fell in love with this little jewel.  Dirty Dozen Alumni Carolina (http://creativepad.typepad.com/) altered this notebook and used the Devoted and Because of You kits from {ippity}.  Did you see that she made a little charm with the flower from Because of You using Shrinky Dink plastic?  Amazing!! I love it!

Savannah is getting in the spirit of Valentine's Day with this beauty!  She used the Just Wanted to Say and Because of You kits to make this card. It is so cute!

Where do you begin in talking about the good things on this card.  It is full of them!! I love the ribbon treatment and the layering, and the colors, and I could go on and on.  Stephanie M. (http://www.handmade75.blogspot.com/) created this inspiring card using a the Just Wanted to Say kit from {ippity}  Love it!!

And last but certainly not least, Stephanie Z (http://www.stephaniezito.blogspot.com/) created this fabulous layout using many {ippity} kits.  She used the Life's Little Moments, Because of You, and Alphabetically Adorable.  She has shown that the Alpahbetically Adorable set makes the perfect sized letters for a layout.  I love how she made the letter "o" with the flower!! This is just gorgeous!

Well I hope that these faves of mine will get you into your scrap area to start cranking out some more cards and layouts.  I am so impressed with all the talent among our {ippity} friends and I hope you will keep sharing them with us in the Gallery on SCS.  Just add the keyword ippity when you upload your creations.

See tomorrow on the Hippity Hop! There is still time to sign up.  Just add your blog address to THIS thread on the forum!

Have a wonderful Sunday!!

our NEWEST editions to the {ippity} DT

What an EXCITING past couple of days at {ippity}!!

On Wednesday Michelle announced some really fabulous
Yesterday, we announced the
NEWEST additions to the {ippity} design team.
and TODAY, I get the honor of
introducing those 2 fabulous ladies...

Hello...This is Eryn posting today and I am SO THRILLED
to say that I have the honor of working with these
ARTISTIC CREATIVE CRAFTY WOMEN!
{I know that Kelly, Eva, & Maria feel the same way!}

So....ladies and gentlemen...
let's get to know our newest {ippity} designers.
Let's start out with our WONDERFUL....
LISA HENKE

Oh, wow! I'm still in shock and over the moon excited about this amazing opportunity. I know most of you that know me, know that I have loved Unity Stamp Co. from the beginning. So it was only natural for me to be one of the first to jump on board the day {ippity} was announced. I just had to have those images in my hands. There was just something about these stamps that spoke to me. I love the fresh and fun designs of them, but then they were coming from Unity Stamp Co. so I wasn't surprised.

I've been stamping for a long time,10 years now, and feel like I have really developed my passion for it over the past 2 years. There is rarely a day that goes by where I don't spend some time making cards or working on a scrapbook page. I am married to my wonderful, hardworking husband for almost 10 years and we have 3 rambunctious, fun, and loving boys (almost 8,6, and 3). Stamping and crafting is what keeps me sane and helps me stay in touch with my girly side in a house full of testosterone and noise! I love ribbon, and buttons and have a hard time staying away from kraft cs. lol! While I adore a good CAS style, lately I've been loving layers, and coloring, and playing with embellishments of all sorts!!! I can't wait to continue to share my love of paper crafting, and all things {ippity} with this amazing DT and all of you. Thank-you! See you soon! EEEEEE! (can you tell I'm excited??!!!!)!

*******************************************
AND....NOW more about our FABULOUS....

MICHELLE WOERNER

"My name is Michelle Woerner, but you all may know me better as sf9erfan from SCS. I am thrilled to be on this team! I have been a fan of Unity stamps for over a year now, and being a part of the new and exciting {ippity} stamps is an honor and a thrill!

I started stamping years ago completely by accident. I answered an add on Craigslist to buy some scrapbook paper, and while I there I saw her lovely handmade Christmas cards. She said she made them using stamps from a company called Stampin’ Up!. This was a novel idea to me, I never knew people MADE THEIR OWN CARDS?!? How funny is that? Well, I went right home and looked SU! up on Ebay. Through a link on an auction, I found SCS -and the rest is history!

I am a SAHM of two wonderful boys (ages 4 and almost 6). I am surrounded all day by dinosaurs, cars and trucks and cardmaking is a wonderful escape into the world of designer paper, ribbon, flowers and all things pretty! I absolutely love making cards and go through serious withdrawls if I don't craft everyday!"

{Thanks for sharing ladies!!}

That's How Thursday- Snow Tutorial

Welcome to another addition of {Ippity}'s
That's How [you do it] Thursday!!

I have a great tutorial to share with you of something that I created while making Christmas cards this year. I am going to teach a really cool technique to make dimensional snow for your cards and layouts!  But before I get started I wanted to make sure that you saw what Michelle posted on the blog yesterday about the incentives for both sales and referrals.  After you finish reading, keep scrolling down and see what {ippity} is offering if you get referrals and meet certain sales marks!!  They are really awesome!!

You may remember me posting this card for our first H{ippity} Hop blog hop two Monday's ago.  The challenge was to make snow.  I mentioned in my post that I had found a neat way to create the look of dimensional snow without adding too much weight or bulk to your cards.  So today I am going to show you how I did it!

Here are some closeups of the snow...

Are you ready to learn how?

To get started making this snow, you need to gather the following supplies...

White tissue paper
White cardstock
Mod Podge
Foam brush
White/Silver Glitter
and additionally,
Paper cutter
scissors
Sewing machine (optional)

Step 1:

Layout a single piece of wrapping tissue paper out on your piece of Cardstock that is many times taller than the final size you will need and slightly wider..  Using your fingers squish the tissue paper together causing it to bunch upon itself horizontally as shown in the picture above.  Set this aside.

Step 2:

Apply Mod Podge onto your carstock using a foam brush.  Cover an area that will be a bit larger than the finished size you will need for your project.

Step 3:

Place your scrunched up piece of tissue paper onto the area of the cardstock where you just applied the Mod Podge.  Then apply Mod Podge to the surface of the tissue paper too.  Be gentle with this process as the tissue paper tears easily.

Step 4:

While the Mod Podge is still drying, apply glitter over the surface and allow the piece to dry completely before proceeding to the next step.

Step 5:

Trim the dried piece of tissue paper to the size that you want for your project using a paper trimmer.

Step 6:

Shape your piece of snow to the desired shape. You might consider making rolling hills or snow banks.

Step 7:

Adhere the cut portion of the snow to the card base and add machine stitching (if desired)  to the top of the snow to accent the look of snow drifts and layers of snow.

Step 8

Next, all you have to do is omplete your card as desired!!

Here is the one that I created while preparing this tutorial.  the {ippity} stamps used in this card come from the Kissmas & Mistletoe kit.

And here is a closeup of the snow...

I hope you like this technique as much as I have liked the way it looks on my cards!  If you get a chance to try it, I sure would love to see what you made in the {ippity} Gallery.  Have fun with it!  :-)
