Fresh Idea Friday- Using Store Bought Cards!! (GASP!!)

Hello and Happy Friday!!

Today I have a Friday Fresh Idea to share with you that you may or may not have thought of before.  Surely you have received plenty of beautiful store bought cards over the years from your friends and family.  And if you are like me you cherish them and save them to look at later.

But instead of just storing these cards in a box, why not figure out a way to recycle parts of them?  Some of these cards have amazing pieces to them that can make wonderful embellishments or accents that can be added to your handmade cards to enhance them!

Here is a card that I received from my daughter for Mother's Day.  It is so beautiful and ever since I received it, I have been in love with the laser cut out dragon fly and branches.

Here is a close up of the cards center piece...

Isn't that just beautiful?  I think it deserves to be recycled and put to good use again.  It is a way of letting the love that my daughter gave to me be passed on to others!!

So this is what I did with this beautiful cut out!

I made it the center piece of my card too but I added the perfect additions using Ippity stamps!

The stamp sets you see used here....
Where You Should Be
Just Wanted to Say.

The DP is from the MME Home Collection.  The leaves from Where You Should be were stamped three times with Certainly Celery SU ink and cut out and added to the left of the medallion.  The sentiment is from Just Wanted to Say.  I also stamped it with Certainly Celery and added three rhinestones to the oval that I cut with a Nestability.

I love how it turned out!  Here is a close up for you!

And now that I have thought about doing this, I am going to go through all my saved cards and find some more parts of store bought cards that I can use on my own handmade cards!  I think they can make the perfect embellishment or enhancement!  I hope it gives you some inspiration to give this a try!!

Do you have the Ippity sets that I have used here?
To get these sets, please visit the Ippity Chicks link from the top of the side bar on the left!!

I hope that all of you have a very wonderful Fourth of July Weekend!!
The DT is taking the day off tomorrow, so don't look for a Flatterday Saturday Post,
but Maria will be back on Sunday with her faves for the week!!

  6. Such a beautiful design! On my last trip to the UK (my hubby is English, so it's a must) I purchased several boxes of Christmas cards just because I liked the elements on each card AND they only cost the equivalent of $1.25 (for a box of 24 w/envelopes!)...I cut out much of the designs and incorporated them into my own cards...it's really a great way to recycle and pass on the love : )
